Monday

Today was the first day of the work experience. The first thing we did was go on a tour of the office. Then we took a short break and listened to a talk on teamwork and team dynamics. Then we did an excersise where we split into two groups and both groups got a Mr Potato Head. My groups theme was superheroes so we made an iron man, a spiderman and a transformer potato head. We had some extra time at the end so I also made a disney themed one. That one was probably my favourite

Tuesday

We started the day with our first stand up meeting where we would report any issues or concerns we had from the previous day. After that we got out our laptops and leanred a few commands to do on the terminal. We then set up a Github account and started on our own blogs. We had to learn how to add text, images, bullet points and tables. After lunch we listened to a talk on college. They talked about things like doing coursework and making connections in college and I found this talk the most interesting thing today.

Wednesday

We started the day with another stand up where we reported any concerns or issues from the previous day. After that we did an excercise where we made a rollercoaster with paper straws, sheets of paper and tape. The rollercoaster had to have a loop in it. For this task, we had to split into two groups. My group’s rollercoaster had a horizontal loop instead of a vertical one and I think it turned out really well. My job was to make a box out of paper and straws that the ball would fall in at the end.

After lunch we did another engineering task where we had to build a structure with spaghetti and sellotape and we would put a marshmallow on top. Whichever group’s marshmallow was highest won. My group’s first try didn’t go well and it fell apart but we got a second go. That one went much better but we were 1cm shorter than the other team so we lost.
