Monday:

On monday, i arrived to the office at 9:20 and made an account with RedHat. Once I entered the room, we started off by introducing eachother followed by a breif office tour. We then moved on to the break room and began playing Mario Cart along with various other Nintendo games. I thoroughly enjoyed this acticity as it was fun to compete with the other TYs. After gaming it was time for lunch. RedHat offered a selection of snacks and drinks that we were all welcome to take. I helped myself to a delicious hot chocolate before going for a stroll around the office. Our final task of the day was the agile workshop. During this workshop we were split into teams and each team had to build a Mr Potato Head and design it to our liking. As i was the product owner, my job was to choose our designs. The first prompt my team were given was ‘Superhero”. We decided to do Spiderman. Our second prompt was to make Spiderman evil and finally our 3rd and final prompt was to make the opposite of what we had. Overall, i really enjoyed my day and learend many things eg, the principles of agile. I am looking forward to the rest of the week.

#Tuesday On Tuesday, we started off the day by doing a stand up. We each had to state our name and talk about what we did the previous day.We followed the stand up by writing a blog about our previous day. In doing this, I learned how to use GitHub for the first time. This knowledge will benefit me going forward. After I finished my blog, we were given a talk about coding and how its done. We began using Python to practise coding. I enjoyed this task as Python is very beginner friendly and all of the interns were very eager to help. Finally, at 13:00 it was lunch time. I went for a walk around RedHat and arrived back in time for our next workshop. Our final activity of the day was a coding game called Crack A Million Passwords. This game was slightly harder than Python but i thoroughly enjoyed it all the same. Overall, i really enjoyed tuesday.

#Wednesday

On Wednesday, I started the day off by doing a stand up once again. I am glad we did as i finally learned everyones names. After the stand up, we Learned about the history of computing. This was a long presentation given by James. I’m usually not interested in history by i really enjoyed his presentation. We followed this presentation by learning about Bash and CLT. during this, i learned a few CPD codes and slighly improved my coding skills. We were given a small break after that, before the interns gave us an insight into student life. They told us what we could expect going into college and gave us many tips. They each talked about their courses and told us about their jobs at RedHat. Lunchtime arrived shortly after this. I once again, walked around RedHat and explored the area around RedHat. Our final workshop of the day was rollercoasters. We were split into teams of 3 and we had to work together to build a rollercoaster out of straws. The other teams did very well but, unfortunately we couldnt make the rollercoaster do a 360 degree loop. Despite this, I think my team did very well. I enjoyed Wednesday very much and hope we do similar activities again.

#Thursday

On Thursday, the day began with another stand up with Nigel before enjoying a complimentory breakfast for all of the emploees and TYs. I would’ve helped myself to some if it wasn’t for the meal i ate prior. The food looked delicious and there was a lot to choose from. After that, we were given another presentation by James. This time it was about Ai and its abilities. He gave us an excellent example of how advanced the current Ai is by usuing a survey we did on Wednesday and giving it to ai. It was able to do all sorts of impressive things with the information.We then moved on to mindfulness. During this activity, we played a game called the Iowa Project. This included us looking at animals and guessing what kind of animals they were. It was very relaxing and the animals were very cute. After mindfulness, it was time for lunch. I went for a small walk but had to cut it short due to the rain. When we got back from lumch we were split into groups of 2 and 3. In these groups, we had to make a sustainability project based on a heading we were each given. Our presentation was good but i now know i need to work on my presenting skills. Overall, I had a good day.
